I have 65Ah calcium battery (an AA 2543) that is a few years old but not more than 4.
It is in a Subaru Outback 2.5L.
In lockdown I usually run it for a while every 10-14 days but I got lazy and have paid the price - when I went to start it the other day it only started the engine turning over and then it died completely.
I have no charger at the moment but am happy to buy one to restore this battery and to use it to keep others alive.
So what kind of charger do I need - there seem to be an awful lot of options?
And once I have the charger how long would I keep it hooked up?
Thanks

Hi there,
Your best bet is to get a Smart charger that will charge your battery and switch off when not required. You can find out more and purchase one here or enquire through AA Battery Service0800 500 222. https://shop.aa.co.nz/collections/car-accessories/products/buy-car-battery-charger

I've had a look at that webpage and there is something on there that is of concern. It says "The smart charger is not suitable for a battery that has been flattened ..."

I'm not averse to buying the AA's charger but I don't want it if it's not suitable for my current situation.

Can you please advise what the ideal option is for my situation.

Thanks

HI there,
I recommend calling the battery line 0800 500 222, as this would mean to me if the battery has 0 volts, yours still has voltage but not enough to start the car and so I would think this charger still what you would need.
