We recently purchased a second hand Toyota Corolla (2008) from a Ford Dealership and have been advised we still have the balance of new car Toyota warranty (until 2011).

At the time of purchase, we were also offered a further 3 year warranty which is offered by the Dealership on behalf of a mechanical warranty underwriter.

The warranty offered is an elite policy at a cost of a further $1295.

We declined the offer but have been advised the dealer will keep it open for the next month or so.

Can you advise if Toyota offers a similar warranty and would we not be better to purchase through Toyota rather than from a Ford dealership?

Once new car or factory warranties expire, most dealers obtain additional warranty from a local provider or underwriter, so in theory it makes little difference if the car was purchased from a Ford or Toyota dealer.

I doubt if Toyota would offer the warranty on a car they did not sell. Mechanical warranties are normally offered at the time a used car is purchased from a Licensed Trader only.

My best advice is to let the new car warranty run its course and then consider additional mechanical warranty after that.

The AA does offer a very competitive mechanical warranty for owners of existing cars (conditions apply) which may be of interest.

Spending $1295 now on a policy which does not become active until after 2011 is not really necessary.

I bought an imported BMW1 series in April 2013. Two coils were replaced in November 2013. 1) Is this an extended warranty cover? Its May 2014 and and they are all being replaced plus sparks. 2) is this an extended warranty cover Pricing: The costs have been $850 round 1. $1200 round 2. 3) Are these reasonable prices. Thanks
