Hi, I'm looking for advice on buying a camper van.

I'd like a high roof or pop top and ideally a 4WD. It's mostly just for me to go camping and having three seats would be great in case I can persuade my family to come!

I've seen a Nissan Caravan and a Mitsubishi L300 SWB I like the look of and was keen to hear if anyone knows of significant maintenance issues with either.

Also keen for any other buying tips and curious to hear if anyone has paid to have a camper-conversion done and how that was.

Thanks, Gareth

Hi there,
From a vehicle point of view Mitsubishi vans are generally very good, seem to go for ever if well maintained- bit like Toyota. Not really heard much about the Nissan vans, good nor bad. Maybe when you are looking at vehicles, check to see that the cooling system is in good order and has coolant in. However something to look out for might be recent cooling system work (blown hoses blocked heater or radiator) other than routine waterpump/cambelt replacement. Because you don't want to by a vehicle and find out later that it's had a history of overheating and then it blows a head gasket/ cracks a head etc.
