We have a 1991 Honda Civic that is surplus to requirements and plan to sell to a wreckers since the WOF expires in November and we don't want the hassle of a private sale. Do you recommend deregistering the vehicle before contacting the wrecker? Or do they usually handle all of the paperwork? Is the vehicle even allowed to be parked on the road if the plates have been removed? Or shall we park it up the drive until the wreckers collect it? We have already cancelled the insurance but just wondering about the best way to handle the next steps in the process.
Thanks

Hi there,
generally cars are worth more if the registration is live as someone can fix any issues and keep using the vehicle. But if the vehicle is beyond repair and is best to be taken off the road permanently- then yes best for you to remove the plates and license label and hand in to a license centre and cancel the licensing yourself. That way you know it's completed. It is illegal to be parked on the side of the road with no plates or license label- so best to not take it out until the truck has arrived.
