Hi, i have purchased a vehicle within the past three months. It has a overheating problem. The coolant boiled immediately after switching the engine off after just an easy twenty minute drive on open road. I now do not use the vehicle except for a 3 minute trip to the shop and back on occasion. The temperature gauge does not, and has never moved above normal. The twin cooling fans do not run. I am in Wellsford, the dealer is in
Whangerei. The dealer has tried to get me to drive to Whangarei, which i have refused to do as i cannot monitor the engine temperature with a gauge that does not move above normal. The dealer has said he would get a mechanic to call me. A person called John did call and says it is usual that the temperature gauge does not move higher than normal but the fans should come on.
I am now awaiting the owner to contact me to arrange an opportunity to do checks on the vehicle to see why the fans are not working. He still is urging me to bring the vehicle in. I am fast running out of my 3 months, and fear that i am being given the run around.
Two questions:
What do i do?
How can the temperature gauge remain on normal when the coolant is boiling away within the cylinder head?
Regards Richard

Hi there,
The best thing is to have the vehicle towed to the selling dealer in order for them to have a look into the nature of the issue. This is because they must have first right to remedy. It is a little strange that a cooling system can boil with it not registering hot on the gauge. It could be that the thermostat is stuck closed and the cooling system not circulating.
