Hi all,

I am upgrading our car for a bigger one since we have a new family member. :D

I've done a lot of research and decide to go for Toyota Wish (I am currently driving a small Mazda and want to try different brand this time). My budget is max $8,500 and have been eyeing on many listings on Trademe and everywhere. (been to a couple of dealers as well)

I still cannot decide between 1st and 2nd generation of Toyota Wish. I've listed down what I want.

- Budget is max.$8,500
- 1,800CC engine
- Mileage under 100,000
- Year between 2007~2011

These are my questions.

1. Is Toyota Wish 2nd generation better in terms of oil consumption and runs a longer mile per litre?

2. Is the CVT transmission on Toyota Wish 2nd generation is not as reliable as 1st generation automatic transmission? (I've been told Nissan and Honda CVT may be troublesome but Toyota is okay?)

3. Do you recommend to get 1st generation Wish with low mileage (year 2008-2009) or 2nd generation Wish with higher mileage (year 2009-2011)?

4. Is there a specific year model that I'd better avoid or prefer?

Thank you all and wish you happy new year!

Hi there,
The Wish is a popular Japanese Import, and Toyota as a whole produce vehicles that are traditionally reliable. However because they are Japanese Domestic spec vehicles that didn't come here new, spec information is harder to come by. We recommend getting the newest and safest car your budget allows. I'm not aware of transmission issues with Toyota CVT's. A Pre Purchase inspection is recommended to make sure the car you but is satisfactory.
