We purchased thi vehicle last November and soon noticed that when ever the vehicle starts to go down a hill or incline it quickly comes out of the higher gear it may be in ( say 1000 rpm) and will change down and rev up to 2200 or above and nothing I do will get it to change back up until vehicle is on the level. I took it back to mechanic of dealer who said he believed this was the way the Variable transmission of these cars now worked after testing it and said nothing can be done . I have driven a number of automatics and all engine's speed drops down when you brake going downhill but this one revs up furiously.
I would appreciate any ideas

Hi there,
This can happen in some vehicles that 'learn' driver behavior and it tries to anticipate your driving style, so it sounds like it thinks that you would normally slow down on a similar gradient slope and it changes down a gear for you. You might be able to ask a transmission specialist if there is a way to stop it from doing this, or it could be the new normal.
