I am looking to sell my 1996 Mazda Familia hatchback, but have no idea of its value. It is in good condition, new cam belt, recently serviced and has travelled 120,000 km.

I was thinking around $3000, but am I being too optimistic?

There is a lot going for this vehicle from the information you have supplied.

The odometer is low for the cars age, it's a popular model and a good service history including the cam belt replacement are all positives.

Provided the body work is reasonable then I would try for $3,000 or slightly higher, but be prepared to negotiate a little.

The good service history can mean a saving of at least $500 to a prospective buyer.

Don't forget to procure a new Warrant of Fitness (less than one month old) before you sell.

Don't give the car away but keep an open mind when negotiating with a potential buyer.
