MHUDSON11

Hello
I am looking at buying one of these. It is a 2011 model. I have spoken to two mechanics and had contrasting views on the merits of the purchase. Do you have any advice? Is there anything in your experience that I should look out for in particular?
Thank you.

Hi there,
We've not really had much feedback on the Passat. But its very similar to a Golf with the 1.4TSI engine, the usual things to look out for is transmission operation if it's a DSG, has it been serviced, had any recall issues or is it due for servicing.

Thank you.
Yes it is a DSG. I have been trying to find out a bit more about them as a gearing system but it all seems to come from a fairly biased viewpoint. I won't be buying it without a warranty, but in your experience is the DSG more trouble than it is worth? As a design it sounds good, but does it have too many fish hooks?

Hi there,
I have a 1.4 TSI Golf GT and the transmission is great, people need to understand the transmission type and how they operate differently to traditional automatics because they are essentially closer to a manual transmission than conventional A/T. As with any European vehicle approaching 10 years and beyond, there will be thing that can require repairs (at a cost) where you may not have the same in a Japanese car. But you get an experience from driving a European car that is seldom the same in others.
