Hi, my Audi a3 had its mechatronic unit fail in 2019 (known fault) and replaced under provident warranty.

The new unit has since failed, and provident are saying that the part is no under warranty so there is nothing they will do. But wouldn't you expect a new mechatronic unit to last longer than 2 years (20000km)? So while not covered by warranty it should be covered by the Consumer guarantee act (as the item is not fit for purpose as has not survived a realistic period). The audi dealership that we have dealt with for servicing has advised that they have never had to replace the mechatonic unit twice.

You may have to go to a disputes tribunal if the work carried out or parts replaced have failed prematurely. https://www.consumerprotection.govt.nz/help-product-service/cars/fixing-your-car/

Thanks, what would AA consider a reasonable life span on a new genuine mechatronic unit? (Provided the car had been maintained/not driven inappropriately)

Hi there,
I'm sorry but we are not able to put a timeframe on how long a vehicle component should last.
