We own a 1994 V6 Galant.

It's been a great car but when it's hot there seems to be a rattling noise coming from the gearbox at idle. When you push the clutch pedal in the noise goes away.

Clutch and release bearing were replaced approx 50K ago.

Could it be the input shaft bearing?

It certainly sounds like a problem in that area.

When the clutch pedal is depressed you are stopping the gearbox input shaft from turning so I tend to agree with your diagnosis.

The only other thing I can think of is the release bearing is rattling for some reason and by depressing the clutch you are actually loading it and stopping the noise.

Either way it sounds like the gearbox will need to be removed.
