I am looking at buying a Mitsubishi Cedia Touring 2001, 1.8l, 6-stage tiptronic.

It seems to drive well and be very economical, however, having never owned a Mitsubishi previously I'm interested to find out about their reliability and your thoughts in general on these models.

Mitsubishi Lancer Cedia's are powered by a Gasoline Direct Injection Engine (GDI).

GDI technology was designed to produce an engine to run a very lean air / fuel ratio and to produce low levels of emissions.

As these vehicles have started to record high km's however, history has shown they have developed a few problems such as rough running and stalling which many garages have found difficult to diagnose and repair.

A lot of problems have been traced back to a high carbon build up in the intake manifold which is a result of the GDi technology.

Even Mitsubishi NZ acknowledge this technology can have its problems.

We are not aware of any 6 speed tiptronic transmissions fitted to the Cedia. As far as we are aware they were all 4 speed automatics.

It may however be fitted with a Constant Variable Transmission (CVT) in which case I would also issue a warning of caution.
