I would like to clear up a few myths regarding the fuel economy of the H2 Hummer. Having travelled over 40k our average fuel usage is 16-17L/100km under normal driving circumstances, that of course changes when towing a heavy load.

With a heavy load we return 28L/100km which is to be expected. Overall this is a fantastic vehicle, and I would have no hesitation owning another.

If the Hummer meets your daily needs and life style then I guess you can justify this sort of fuel consumption and no doubt there are other similar sized vehicles with comparable or worse figures.

For many however, this fuel consumption is still way too high.

Often these vehicles are seen driving around town or in environments where their presence is almost intimidating and the amount of fuel used is seen as a waste regardless of how economical peoples claims are.

Diesel has become the fuel of choice for many who tow heavy loads as figures of 28L/100km would be financially crippling over a long distance for most owners.

Unfortunately, fuel consumption has not been a high priority for vehicles like the Hummer coming out of the USA but all that is about to change for those manufacturers wanting to survive into the future.

For example, as part of the restructure of Chrysler, they have stated one of their main objectives is to reduce fuel consumption on their vehicles moving forward, and are looking at Fiat to help them achieve this.

GM is going through the same process and has been trying to off load the Hummer brand for some time as it would not seem to fit the new company image going forward.
