Hi. Recently had a major mechanical failure seems to be poor workmanship of cam belt change. Fault is broken crank pulley bolt and thread has damaged, crank pulley dropped off, all drive belts came off their locations.

The cam belt, water pump, was replaced 27 oct 16. Seems to be consensus from other mechanics that wasn’t bolted in tight enough.

Can we make the mechanic who did the cam belt change take responsibility for this. Or is 18months too long? He did hand write parts and laborious one year warrntlt on receipt but the car has only done 13,000 Kim’s since change. We changed this to avoid major failure and now car is completely toast.

Can you advise what we can do?

We desperate to get this resolved.

Appreciate your help.

If you believe the damage was a result of poor workmanship, you should contact the original garage and give them a chance to remedy the issue as they may be insured for this kind of occurrence.
If they don't agree have an engineer look at he the parts and give to a professional assessment, you may need to dispute the issue in the disputes tribunal with the evidence you have gathered including invoices from the initial repair.
