I called the AA to help with flat battery while on holiday. Was a worn alternator belt that was replaced by an AA repairer. A couple of day later it had to be tightened as was loose again. Then a day after that I took the van to the dealers who said it was the wrong belt. Currently unable to get first garage to admit fault, repco who supplied the belt or Gates the manufacturer. Stuck with a double bill. How can I make progress getting my money bac?

Hi there,
You will need to go through the manager of the company who fitted the belt in the first instance. It can be a bit tricky if you are stuck on the side of the road and the only belt available was not quite right. It is common for belts to stretch a bit when first fitted and require adjustment.
The question is, was the belt wrong but will do the job, or totally incorrect and not suitable?

Have put in a claim but going all the way back to the manufacturer and taking 3 months so far. Was clearly the wrong belt as the replacement from Toyota was perfect but the Repco one was useless. Was just wondering if I can pressure the garage that fitted it, even if not their fault (duty of care?). They are MTA.
