Forum Legal advice Rules around children as passengers on motorbikes/motorbike child seats

Locoman2

Hello.

I have struggled to find any clear answers to this question.
With the exception of using a helmet, what are the other requirements for children to legally ride as a passenger on a motorbike or scooter?
And also, what rules if any apply to purpose made child seats for motorbikes and scooters?

Thankyou

Hi there,
The NZ Road User Rules can be found below, there is no specific mention on child seats for bikes. But the requirement for the passenger to have their feet reaching the pedals could be a limiting factor. http://www.legislation.govt.nz/regulation/public/2004/0427/latest/DLM303674.html
