What happens with car insurance when an employer requires you to use your car for business?

The reply below comes from our AA Insurance team:

Our strongest recommendation is to discuss this with your insurance company.

If your employer requires you to regularly use your car as a normal part of your job, then your insurer needs to know this to make sure you have the right type of cover and to accurately calculate the annual policy cost.

If the vehicle is used frequently for business purposes, it is likely your insurance company would like to discuss with you what you are specifically using your car for. This will allow them to establish if this changes the type of insurance you require.

Even if the vehicle is used infrequently for business purposes, you should inform your insurance company. It is likely they would continue to offer cover, with no additional terms or conditions.
