I bought a 2005 Ford Falcon 6 months ago. The inside rear passenger door handle completely broke off in my sons hands as he shut the door!

The car dealer said it's not covered by the guarantees act or the extended warranty cover he also sold us.

Is this true?

The car dealer is correct. A broken door handle would be considered fair wear and tear on a vehicle of this age.

Mechanical warranty insurance policies do not cover these items either for the same reason.

If you purchased from a Ford dealer however, it would be nice if they offered some support as a gesture of goodwill (parts or labour at a discounted price?).

It may also pay to ask your son exactly what happened. If there was some unnatural force on the door handle then this may happen again in the future.
