Can you please confirm if there is a new size limit on the safety chain for trailer connections.

If so what are the specification please?

HI John,

The Code of Practice for light trailers states that the safety connection (chain) must have a minimum breaking strength equal to two times the trailers maximum towed mass.
We are not aware of any changes to this requirement.
In practice, warrant of fitness inspectors make a judgement call as to the size of the chain versus the weight of the trailer.

The chain length is based on its ability to stop the trailer drawbar from striking the roadway if the trailer came loose from the tow coupling.
