Citroen C4 Cactus 2015/2017 car review

For those who would like to stand out, make a statement or just be a little different, Citroen has the answer as the new C4 Cactus ticks all these boxes and more. Citroen's intent was to create a car that stands apart with a unique design that is both functional and attractive, and they’ve completely nailed it!

The C4 Cactus motto is ‘more’ - more design, more comfort, more useful technology and more optimised cost of ownership. It features quirky innovative features like the Airbump system and magic wash wipers and, if the style of the Cactus is not enough, you have a choice of 184 different trim and colour combinations to customise your purchase.

No more car park rage

The Airbump trims are available in four colours and are a Citroen innovation to combine form and function. Made from TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) the bumps are filled with air to absorb minor impacts - at last no more shopping car park dents! Magic wash is a simple, ingenious innovation that does away with the traditional washer jet. The nozzles are built into the tips of the wipers and release just a small amount of fluid. This maintains visibility during washing while also using a minimal amount of fluid compared to the conventional systems.

Take me on a trip

The interior is just as exciting with a glove compartment designed to look like a suitcase and a sofa-style front bench seat. Removing the traditional barrier of the centre console brings the front occupants together and opens up the cabin. A fully functional 7” touch screen removes the clutter from the centre console, allowing all vehicle functions to be controlled via six touch sensitive buttons.

The new panoramic glass roof is the best on the market, featuring advanced heat protection which is designed to keep the heat out by filtering incoming light. This filtering is so effective, it negates the need for a sunblind which results in greater headroom, less weight and better weight distribution.

Changes for 2017

Back from the desert, the funky Cactus is determined to redeem itself from the extremely prickly version released in 2015. I must admit the changes are great and no longer having to drive the “automatic” like it’s a manual is a big relief!

The fresh Cactus is now powered by a 1.2ltr PureTech 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine, as opposed to previously being diesel only. The conventional automatic transmission comes with stop/start technology and hill assist as standard.

The new PureTech 1.2ltr 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine provides a modest 5.1L/100km combined fuel economy.

The price has now reduced from $37.990 to $32,990 so you can get a lot of vehicle without breaking the budget.
