Exceptional safety score

Hyundai are proud to announce the Genesis as being the safest car ever tested by ANCAP, with the highest score of 36.88 out of 37. Outstanding results for occupant protection in any situation. With 9 airbags fitted throughout the interior, you can soon see why.

Aggressive headlights, a long bonnet and vertical nose, and sleek ‘C’ pillar combine to spell out luxury. A favourite feature of mine is the inclusion of Genesis logo puddle lamps, which project their beam at your feet when you near the car. Similarly, the auto-opening ‘smart’ boot which lifts when you stand nearby is a neat feature whilst the power door latches will ensure you don’t drive around with your door not closed properly.

Orchestra for the senses

The interior designers have left nothing out, and placed all you need easily in reach. Controls and dials are easy to read and understand. Radar cruise control functions are purposely laid out on the steering wheel, along with the all-important following distance adjustment. A 9.2” Hi Def touch screen infotainment paired with the high-quality, 17 speaker Lexicon audio (an optional extra) projects an orchestra for the senses. The head-up display (HUD) keeps the driver well informed, and even broadcasts blind spot warnings.

Seating is fully adjustable and heating and cooling in the front and back gives you control of the climate you sit in. The rear seats recline and offer media and seat control via a fold down centre console/ arm rest - not a function most would be too thrilled to have, but the controls are lockable.

Out on the road

On the road, the Genesis has more than enough power flowing to the rear wheels, supplied by a 3.8ltr, 232kW V6 engine, that uses 11.2ltr/100km of fuel. The ride is controlled by electronic air suspension and enhanced by reinforced body stiffness. I personally found the ride a little hard and felt every bump in the road. Cornering stability however was superb with little body roll to speak of.

All in all, the Hyundai Genesis 2015 is an exceptional looking car, worthy of its luxury title and bolstered by that impressive safety standard that it’s set as the new benchmark. At $99,990, it’s a vehicle that will appeal to those who want the luxury, without the European influence.
