ŠKODA Octavia wagon 2017 car review

The ŠKODA Octavia begins the third decade of its success story with proven strengths and new qualities. Comprehensive revisions give the Czech car manufacturer’s bestseller a particularly striking design, a refined ambiance in the familiar generously sized interior and optimised driving characteristics.

The 2017 model revision has resulted in quite significant changes, characterised in particular by the front section with its wide radiator grille, wider honeycomb air inlets, and additional lighting units in the headlights. The body outer dimensions have slightly stretched for the wagon, which also allows for extra interior and luggage space. What I love about Skoda and what makes it unique is the clean-cut lines throughout the vehicle, also evidenced by a recent “Red Dot Design Award” received after a jury pane of 40 international designers were most impressed by the lines, inspired by Bohemian crystal glass art.

The revised multifunction displays are clearer and easier to read while the door trims can now come equipped with ambient LED light strips with ten colour choices (optional extra).  Five new features have been added to the driver assistance system range. These consist of rear view camera, adaptive cruise control, front assist with predictive pedestrian protection (warns the driver via an audio/ visual signal as well as a gentle jolt of the brakes), park assist (takes the hassle out of tight spot parking), and blind spot detection which all combined give the Octavia a 5-star ANCAP safety rating.

The icing on the top or ‘Simply Clever’ features as Škoda put it include a new bottle holder on board (the bottom of which is shaped in a way that allows PET bottles to be opened using one hand), a heated steering wheel, two USB ports in the rear, folding tray tables on the backrests of the front seats and a personalise able key. The boot of the ŠKODA Octavia Wagon is also equipped with a removable torch with a battery that recharges while driving. You can even add extras like a portable coffee maker, dog safety belt, or a smart clothes hanger that clips onto the headrest.

The new Octavia comes with a choice of four engines, available in petrol and diesel creating a broad power range from 85-132kW.
