Petrol and diesel prices as at 20 June 2018

Fuel prices fell 2 cents per litre on 20 June due to falling commodity prices, the fourth price cut this month. The commodity price for petrol has fallen over $4/barrel (and $3/barrel for diesel) since the last price drop, but some of this has been offset by a drop in the value of the NZ dollar.

A welcome reduction in fuel prices last week, with 3 cuts in 5 days totalling 6 cents per litre off petrol, and 4cpl for diesel. This pulls petrol prices back from the record high of $2.30/litre. The reduction is mostly due to falling commodity prices with the market well supplied, although the NZ$ also rose 1c against the US$ last week. Since the last price rise on 18 May, the landed cost of petrol and diesel has fallen 5cpl; we say the price of diesel at the pump should have also fallen by the same amount as petrol, but at these margins prices should remain steady at least.
