Paddle a kayak in Milford Sound

Milford Sound is the best-known and most accessible of all the fiords in Fiordland National Park.

It is also one of the wettest places in the world, raining for around 180 days each year with an average annual rainfall of 6,813mm. But the rain makes for a truly unique environment where waterfalls plummet off rainforest-clad cliffs into the sea.

Explore Milford Sound by sea kayak and you’ll get a real sense of this dramatic, moody place.

Glide through the fiord to discover more hues of green and blue than you thought imaginable. Paddle past thundering waterfalls and, if you’re lucky, get up close with the Bottlenose dolphins that regularly visit the Sounds.

On a fine day, Milford Sound is even more breathtaking, with views to Mitre Peak – New Zealand’s most photographed mountain – rising more than a kilometre out of the sea.
