Apart from changing the air filter what would be the best performance modifications to make? It is a standard family car with no mods.

Not sure if you mean changing the whole air induction system or just the air filter to help improve performance.

Simply changing the filter itself could produce a zero result to be honest and you should be very careful of making changes to any other part of the induction system. Airflow into the engine is controlled and monitored to ensure the ideal fuel/air mixture over a range of different engine conditions. Gaining performance in one area can create a negative result somewhere else.

You would need to start playing around with the on-board engine management system to attempt any major changes or improvements. It can be a very expensive exercise which can end in tears.

Our best advice is not to go there full stop.

You sum it up best, this model Camry is a standard family car.

Upgrading to a Toyota Sportivo V6 would bring substantial performance improvements. But I do realise this may be cost prohibitive.
