I wish to upgrade the struts on the rear liftback on a 1995 nissan sentra. I have removed one strut and find it has a ball and socket at one end that I cannot dismantle. If I purchase a new strut from a nissan dealer, will it have the ball and socket fixture attached. If not. how do I dismantle the ball and socket at one end of the item

There is usually a clip that needs to be pulled back to separate the ball and socket. Having said that, a new one from Nissan may come with the ball attached. However, there may be other options for you. There are several companies specialising in re-gassing struts these days, which may be a cheaper option for you. Here's one option to try.
