Looking to buy a new roof box for my Subaru Legacy. Does anyone have any suggestions re. brand or the most economical size? It will need to be at least 1.85m internal length to accommodate snowboards. Will only use for holidays - a couple of times a year, so not bothered about a quick attachment as won't be taking on/off that often.

Where should I go for information on the impact on fuel consumption of different makes/models?

Thanks.

You can expect around a 12% or more increase in fuel consumption with a roof box fitted to your vehicle. Hopefully the roof box manufacturer will have some results from testing that can guide you to choose the best box for fuel economy and loading space. You should try look for a streamlined box which should have the least wind resistance. Wind noise is something you will have to accept as all of these fitments suffer from this. I known people who have owned Thule roof boxes and they never had any complaints about them. You can visit their site for more information by following this link This link
