I have a Mitsubishi Delica Starwagon 1996. I have been reading a lot about window tinting laws in New Zealand. I want to tint the windows on this two seater campervan, but not the windscreen. I understand that I can have a 100mm sun glare strip on the top of the windscreen if I did want and 35% for the side windows next to the driver and passenger. The area I am unclear on is regarding the windows behind the driver/ passenger area. Behind the cab are four side windows (two on each side) and the one rear window. I would preferably have the windows tinted as close to opaque as possible. I believe that this is legal as the regulations (as I read them) state that as the area does not have any passenger seating in (just a bed and storage) the windows can have any grade of tint installed. No persons can legally be in the back whilst the vehicle is in motion, so emergency services do not need to see into the back for that reason in emergency or otherwise. I am unsure due to the terms used on the NZTA website stating that this only applies to commercial vehicles.

Can anyone please put me right?
Thanks.

NA and MB class vehicles (one of which your vehicle would fall into) are permitted to have any level of tinting on the windows behind the driver and front seat passenger.
If you have any doubts about what is and isn't legal, the tinting companies should be familiar with the regulations.
