Not a serious question, but would still like to know if bumper stickers can cause damage to a car's paint job, especially when you need to remove it?

Good question. If the bumper is painted properly (as per factory original), the sticker should not pull the paint off when you remove it. If the sticker is on there for a long time (years, not months), it's possible the paintwork can fade with time, but will remain the original shade under the sticker, so it could leave an unfaded area where the sticker was - particularly on red cars.
If you boil a kettle and pour hot water on the sticker to remove it, the sticker will come off easier and be less likely to cause any damage.
