Hi there, I have a BMW 323i (2007) which has traction control. I'm planning a trip to Tongariro National Park for some skiing at Whakapapa, and I'm not sure whether I will need snow chains to drive there. Does traction control mean I won't need snow chains? Do you have any advice please?

Even cars with Traction Control and Electronic Stability Control should use chains. These are safety features designed to minimise loss of traction under normal conditions, but it is still the physical nature of the tyres against the ice than can really only be overcome by using something that digs in to the ice, much in the same way a mountain climer uses an ice pick.
