Ask an expert

Hi
I've been reading about Autosocks, an alternative to snow chains. They came up on Ask an expert a couple of years ago (http://www.aa.co.nz/cars/ask-jack-forum/accessories-extras/show/1162/ ), and I was just wondering if anyone had any more up-to-date information about them, or if more people had tried them out since then.

I'm looking for something to keep in my Honda Jazz just in case it snows while I'm at work, and the roads up the hills to home get dicey. I'd be driving slowly on sealed roads. I've been thinking about snow chains, but would the autosocks be any better? easier to fit? better for the car?

Thanks
Nic

Snow socks are a great alternative to chains as they are easier to fit to the wheels and take up little storage space. From the feedback we have had we believe they work really well on the snow and ice but you need to remove them as soon as you depart the snow covered tracks as they wear very quickly on the tarmac.

Snow chains produce a vibration on the wheels whereas the socks do not. Snow chains will last a lot longer than the socks but they have a premium price and take a lot longer to fit.
