Which vehicles would you recommend as a replacement for my VW Golf Mark 5 2.0 FSI driven through a 6-speed manual. Note I abhor automatics!

The new Golf VII has sharp pricing and for this reason you might want to consider a new Golf. Other new hatchback vehicles to consider is the 2.0L Mazda 3, the 1.8L Hyundai i30, Toyota Corolla 1.8L, Holden Cruze 1.6L turbo model or even the smaller 1.6L Suzuki Swift Sport.

I would consider a new Golf if there was a Manual in the higher specification. Mazda 3 2.5 is nearest equivalent. Would not consider a Suzuki Swift, Toyota or a Holden.
I'm one who is very difficult to please in the NZ marketplace as I absolutely hate Automatics with a passion and appreciate the economy oand pleasure of driving a manual gearbox.
Seems as though I need to import as NZ Vehicle dealers only have Automatics,

Why don't you consider a MINI Cooper S Ian. They come in 6 speed manual and pump out 135kws, real pocket rockets. The handling is fantastic, and it gets rave reviews about its gearbox and peddle placement. Its a car that those who enjoying having to "drive a car" absolutely love. Want more power, go for a JCW Cooper S at 160kws!!
