Hi Guys,

Looking at buying a 99-2005 Nissan Skyline. They come in 2.5, 3.0 and 3.5. I know the 3.5 is probably the best engine of the lot and the 3.0 runs a Direct injection so probably should avoid it. How about the 2.5 one- are they all turbo? Is it a bit underpowered for the size of the car? And are all the autos CVT?

Thanks

There are many different variants in this year range. The 3.0L motor can be found with direct injection or port injection. The 3.5L will have a CVT transmission so it's best to avoid. The 2.5L can be found with either direct injection or port injection. The 2.5L non-direct injection and non-turbo will be the better choice for reliability. Performance on the 2.5L (non turbo and non-direct injection) will be powerful enough for some but its best that you test the vehicle yourself to decide if it will suite you.

Thanks so is the 2.5GT ( the one I see advertised the most) a turbo?

The 2.5 GT V35 Skyline has a 2.5 litre V6 (non turbo) engine that is very smooth and has plenty of power for most people. It is a NEO (Nissan Ecology Oriented) engine, optimized for economy whilst producing "comfortable" power. This car was sold in USA as the Infinity and targeted the luxury market as opposed to previously targeting the "sports" market. They come in both a "6 speed CVVT" transmission (to be avoided) and a "normal" 4 speed auto.

I personally own & drive one of these and are very happy with both performance and economy along with the rear wheel drive handling.
