Hope you can help with Just a few other things that might help me decide this morning...
- Economy - I drive quite a bit around town, up hill, stop start, etc. Comparing the economy ratings seems I'd save about $500 annually with the Fielder.
- Safety - I'm assuming they are both about the same level of safety?
- Fielder push button start, prox key - can these kind of features add to servicing cost?
- I'll hold on to the car for about 5 years, could either one have a better resale value (perhaps the mazda).
Really appreciate your help... sorry for taking up your time.
cheers

The Mazda 6 has a better safety rating than the Toyota Corolla Fielder (for those years).

Most modern cars have push button start and proximity keys for convenience and you will appreciate having this feature when you are trying to get your car keys out of your pocket and scratching around the door lock with your hands full of groceries - Mazda also has these features available on their vehicles. It doesn't add to servicing costs (it has a small in-expensive battery that can be replaced); if you misplace the key or it gets damaged and no longer works then you will pay.

Both the Toyota and Mazda have good resale values so either way you can't go wrong. But the price your parents are asking for their Mazda 6 is around $4,000 (or more) cheaper than you would normally pay so you will lose a lot less with the Mazda 6 in the long run.

The Toyota Fielder uses less fuel and if that is your main criteria for a car then I suggest you run with the Fielder but on pure driving pleasure and looks the Mazda 6 wins hands down.

You would normally pay a lot more for a Mazda 6 (for the year, model and mileage) so you will be saving more in purchase price than you will over five years in fuel (for the average driver).

Great, thanks for the help. Have gone with the Mazda. Yep, has been a good drive... and perhaps economical enough.
cheers.
