I have read a number of your blogs re Audi's and that they are unreliable. Does this relate to older models with the CVT transmissions only. If so which years to keep clear of. Am considering a 2005 A3 2.0T FSI or a 2005 A4 Avant. Both are imports and have done around 40,000 kms. Thanks

Generally speaking, the main problems were with the Multitronic (CVT) transmission that Audi used in a number of models from around 1999. As with all other CVTs, numerous upgrades have been made in later times and late model CVTs (from approx 2009) seem to be very reliable.
If the cars you're considering have the Multitronic transmission, I'd be a little nervous, otherwise they should be OK - particularly at this mileage.
