Hello
I am new in NZ, Wellington and this will be my first car purchase.
I intend to buy a reliable Hatchback car for me and my wife mainly for shopping over weekends and some out of town sight seeing trips
My budget is 8-10K Max including all costs
I was thinking of buying a Toyota Corolla and wanted to know if I have any advantage if I buy a used car from the Authorized Toyota dealers versus Trademe or other dealers.
Also other then Corolla, Can the members recommend any other good car option for my use ?

Thanks for advising

Hi there,
If you buy a car from and Licensed Motor Vehicle Dealer. You are covered by the Consumer Guarantees Act. This gives you some protection when buying a vehicle, should anything happen shortly after purchase.
It is also advisable to get an AA Pre purchase inspection, just to give you a better indication of the overall condition of the vehicle and any repairs recommended in the future.
Another good car is a Mazda 3 or Axela. Great mid size cars. Maybe a Corolla fielder or Runx in the Toyota range.

Hello

Thanks Cade for the information.
However, what I specifically wanted to know was if the Toyota dealers only sell Toyota direct imported cars or they may also be selling cars imported through auctions in Japan etc. as most cars available in the market are imported from Japan for sale locally
I would most certainly be going through the AA pre inspection report as soon as I shortlist a car no matter from which dealer as I feel it is money well spent as I have practically no knowledge about cars as my driving has been very limited.

Thanks for advising

Hi there,
I would recommend you contact a Toyota dealer for this detailed information.
Signature cars come from Toyota NZ and are imports as well as NZ new.

Hell

Thanks for the information Cade
I have written to the dealer for the clarification and would update on the site for other members knowledge also.
In the meantime I am getting a 2010 Toyota Corolla GX 1.5P Wagon/5 CVT for 10K with 1.50,000 Km on the odometer
In another thread you have advised against a Honda CVT because of the high maintenance cost, but I wanted to know if it holds good for a Toyota also ?
Is it a good buy
Thanks for advising

Hi there,
I think the Toyota Corolla cvt's still have issues but we don't hear as much.
I would recommend a call to a Transmission Specialist .
2010 Toyota's may be new enough to escape some of the common faults.
