Hi
At some point I am looking to upgrade to a slightly bigger vehicle, and the subaru legacy both the 2000-2003 and 2004-2006 models seem in a good price range.
I am just looking at the basic 2.0l ones (I don't want a turbo or 3l for fuel cost reasons, and ive been told to avoid a 2.5).
I just wanted to know what the subarus are like cost wise and reliability wise to service such as spark plugs and cambelts as the engines are boxer and on their sides.
Also, as I would intend to keep it for some time, do the engines usually last a long time with servicing every 10,000kms?

Hi there,
A 2ltr Legacy of these years are great cars. I have no problem recommending them.
I worked on them for 9 years, so know them inside and out. Servicing is not really an issue, sparkplugs should be platinum and replaced every 100kms along with the cambelt.
Servicing every 10k is recommended, or once a year.

Ok thankyou, theyre certainly on the shortlist then, as they are much cheaper than the axelas/3 and the atenzas aswell.

Also took in interest in the smaller impreza 1.5r around 2006/7 models if theyre any good aswell

Hi,
Yes the inpreza are also good cars. A 1500 may be a little under powered if you load the car up. It would be good for round town and small travel.
