I am looking to buy a more recent car. Probably 1300-1500 CC. Are European makes more expensive when it comes to servicing and repair like they used to be?

Yes European cars seem to be a little bit more to service and repair than Japanese cars.
You could look at a Mazda Demio or Suzuki Swift for some good Japanese options.

The Swift would be the better option for trouble free motoring. These are a very popular car right now. Bare in mind that it may not have a spare tyre. And I would ask for two keys.

Thanks for your advice. Just one more question about Suzuki Swift, I am noticed that Suzuki has introduced CVT transmission to the new Swift model after 2010 onwards. So should I avoid CVT model?

The NZ new swifts appear to have standard transmissions, while the imports have cvt.
But I think these ones don't seem to give problems.
