We have looked at everything from Imprezas, Mazda 2s & 3s and seem to be stuck on buying a V W hatch.
Currently looking at a 2005, 2006 Fsi 1.6lt, 6 speed auto with around 90,000km on it.

It will only be used for occasional running around of 20km or so. We originally were looking at spending a bit more for a later model Tsi 1.4, though think it's not economically viable. Our question is have you heard of many major problems with the Fsi ? We would definitely get an AA inspection done before purchasing, realise that doesn't cover anything unforeseen.

Hi there,
The 1.6 FSI seems to be a pretty good car, not many common faults to be seen.
It looks to be chain driven, so no cambelt to replace ( recommend confirming to be 100%).
The engine and transmission combination seem to be a reliable unit. The 7-speed DSG seems to have issues in this year.

Well to complicate things further our offer on a 2011 Tsi 1.4 has been accepted. It's NZ new with higher kms. Is Bluetooth & cruse control standard on these? It seems to be advertised on other identical models. We actually just drove past and got an AA history report for it which obviously didn't mention Bluetooth or cruise control Dealer hasn't responded yet regarding accessories

Hi there,
According top the specs I can see, it looks to have Bluetooth and cruise control as a standard feature.
