Hi there, I am currently shopping around for a double cab ute. I am coming from the SUV market where things like leather interiors and heated seats etc are more prevalent and am finding the ute market quite a challenge. The best vehicles I have test driven have been the Ford Ranger, but when looking for the lowest cost option in 4x4, the Amarok seems to give you more bang for your buck. I have two concerns that I am wondering what you could help me with... the Amarok has a 3000kg tow rating, but I am wondering how effective it is at towing in real world applications. The 2L twin turbo concerns me, as I have a med-large enclosed trailer that I tow often. My second concern is, do you think the values of the 2L versions will take a significant fall when the larger engined V6 model is released? (Therefore, should I wait for that to happen before purchasing).

Cheers!

Hello I have personally towed with a VW Amarok
with a braked weight of 1500kgs and it towed well. It had heaps of gears with its, 8 speed automatic box. Towing wise it was great however it had a high back and found hitching was a little difficult. With this in mind try and choose a version with a reverse camera, also the interior was nothing fancy built for work purposes. If you liked the Amarok check out Nissan Navarra and Mitsubishi triton.

I believe the 2l diesel engine is impressive for what it is and as for a significant fall in price I can't really answer that only time will tell.

The best way is to try one out and ensure the you are satisfied first before a big spend.
