I am currently considering buying a Toyota Funcargo. There are 2 engine options- 1NZ-FE 1.5lt. & 2NZ-FE 1.3lt.
Which is the recommended fuel? 91 or 95 octane.
Thanks

Both these engines have reasonably high compression ratios (11.0:1 air/fuel mix) which means the 95 octane should be used.

Hi there,
Just a quick question:
My dad got a 2006 Toyota Auris last year.
The car has the 1NZ-FE engine (10:5:1 ...or 11:1 I believe.)

I know Jack above has recommended that 95 be used for clean burning.
However my question is, will there be any detrimental effect to the engine internals if 91 is used ? Say after 100,000 Km (carbon deposits due to pre-detonation) ? ...It currently has 59,000 KM.

The 1NZ-FE engine , which is the same engine used in the Toyota Yaris worldwide designed 100% for fuel economy in mind ? (the yaris is supposed to be economical).
So if the engine is designed for premium gas due to the High compression ratio, wouldn't yaris owner in NZ and worldwide be shortchanged ? Why did toyota design the engine to have a high compression and not say 9.5 like the older 1990's era engine. ?

This is something i've been confused about for a while.
Because I was looking / hunting for the 2.0 liter Mazda3's ...and thought ...if this sporty sedan is designed for 91 ...then why does the economical, non sporty subcompact corollas & yaris with 1nz-fe ...requires 95.

Cheers, thanks (sorry for raising up this issue again, i know it's been asked alot.)

The Toyota 1NZ-FE and 2NZ-FE can run on 91 octane fuel without any problem.
