Hi, I have a FORD FIESTA 2004 1590CC and have use it for work; I want to know the running costs. I was employed originally on a rate of 70c/km this was dropped to 35c/km last year as the company was struggling financially and employees have carried these costs.
I have done 25,500 km for the company in the last 2.5 years and my car is needing huge amounts of costly maintenance (brakes, fan belt, cam belt, oxygen sensors)
What is a fair and equitable cost I should expect to claim?

For a small 9 year old car, 35c - 40c per km is probably about right, but it really comes down to a negotiation between you and your employer.
The AA's Running Cost calculation for a 1.6 litre car is 63.9c per km, but this is based on a 3 year old car where depreciation is the biggest cost component. On a 9 year old car, much of the depreciation has already occured.
Our calculations take all factors, including fuel, tyres, WoF, rego, insurance, maintenance etc into account.
