I will be driving my own personal car (a 2005 Subaru Legacy) for my new job and have been asked to put to them a proposal for motor vehicle running costs. I will only be on the road 1-3 times a week, as mainly based from home. Can you please assist? Should I request that this be reviewed annually?

AA Members can download the Vehicle Running Costs report we calculate and use this as a tool to negotiate a fair rate. Log into My AA at the AA Website Running Cost Report .

It's advisable to be reviewed on an annual basis when the rates change.

Hi, if only the petrol cost is to be reimbursed, what do you think is a fair amount per km? As it is for attending courses and not strictly work related, we don't want to cover the entire running cost, just make a contribution to petrol costs. Thanks.

For a medium size vehicle with a fuel economy rating of around 8.95L/100km you could use 20cents/km as a charge out. That's using the average petrol price that was used when calculating the medium size vehicle running costs for 2014.
