The odometer of my car displays a reading of 13.3km/L for the fuel consumption but in actual fact I can't do more than 11½ km/L on average. What could be the reason for the faulty reading on the odometer. Thanks.

Hi there,
As you said it is an average and the fuel consumption readings do tend to fluctuate, while the gauge takes a while to change. I'm not aware of how accurate the consumption readings are or if they are designed to provide an "indication" of fuel economy.
If you work out the usage in Litres per 100km it works out to be 7.5L/100 and 8.6 both are pretty good. It may be a question for the manufacturer as to how accurate the readings actually are.
