We bought a 2006 NZ new Nissan Micra in a private sale in 2010. We have been getting WOF's issued successfully until the current WOF inspection report in which the checker at VTNZ noted rust on the firewall and duly failed it. The total km's are 76500, so we haven't done too many since purchase at approx 50000kms in 2010. What are our rights under FTA and/or CGA? Should we approach Nissan as this is something one wouldn't expect and we think it is a concern for the manufacturer to address.

Hi there,
Unfortunatly the CGA does not cover private sales. And the FTA only covers what information you were told by the seller( missleading you to buy the car).
Also the car is 9 years old, the manufacturer would be under no obligation to offer assistance.
I would have thought that wof and service technicians would have informed you the get it sorted before it became a wof fail.
Your only option is to take it to a panelbeater and get it repaired.
