Morning,

I haven't purchased a car in more than 13 years so just want to make sure I'm doing everything properly. Can you advise if what I list below is correct and in the correct order.

1) I have made an offer on the car I want to buy privately and they have accepted it
2) I am getting an AA Vehicle Inspection, if I am happy with the report....
3) Go to an agent/or go online at the LTSA and fill out a MR13B form (change of ownership) and get a receipt which I will give to the seller when I collect car
4) organise a "Bank Cheque"
5) organise car insurance
6) Get an AA Car History Check just prior to collecting car (I'm a little weary about getting this too early)

I think that is it. If there something I have missed or they aren't in order I would appreciate your advise.

Thanks for your help.

Gary

Hi Gary,
When looking at cars it is good to be informed and relaxed to make the best decisisons.
So forward planning is great.
1/ Find a car you are interested in. Take it for a test drive, see if everything works for you and functions are easy to understand and access.
2/ If you like it, discuss price and maybe deposit to hold the vehicle. Make sure determine the conditions and make sure you can get your money back if you don't like it
or it doesn't check out. Only give a minimal deposit where pssible.
3/ Get the vehicle inspected, pre purchase and history check if the vehicle has been used and registered in NZ already.
4/ Re-think your offer, based on the outcome of the inspection.
5/ Organise the Bank cheque.
6/ Change ownership, online or license agent. Online better, as you can do it on your phone without driving anywhere.
7/ Get insurance.
8/ Enjoy your purchase, drive everywhere you can.:-)
