What are my rights in regards to faulty parts on my car?
The power steering pump failed on my 2013 Ford Mondeo,It has 75km on it.The car broke down in Wanaka so i called out the AA,who checked it out and said pump is broken and needs replaced. No Ford Garage in Wanaka so had to get it repaired at the local garage as it wasn't safe to drive.
I rang Ford NZ and asked them if they would pay for it as power steering pumps shouldn't fail in a 4yr old car with 75km on it.They said they could only help me if i took the car to a Ford Garage for repair,i said it wasn't drivable so i couldn't do that.Rang Ford Australia who also said it could help if taken to Ford garage .Do i have any options here?

Hi there,
If you are using the CGA (consumer guarantees act) as a basis for your claim, then you must give them the first right of repair. Which means if you want a dealer/ manufacturer to pay for it then you must contact them first (and they can fix it as they see fit).
Unfortunately a non-dealer has fixed it and thus absolving the manufacturer of any responsibility. https://www.consumerprotection.govt.nz/get-guidance/buying-maintaining-and-renting-a-car/solving-issues-with-your-car-dealer/

So the question is what can i do,the part is faulty, things break in remote locations ,seems to me this gives the manufacturer a way out,how could they have first right of repair when they have no repairers in the area?Apart from CGA do i have any other options?

The option left is the disputes tribunal who can make the call on if a vehicle manufacturer
has any more responsibility with repairs of your vehicle.
There is always a process/ conditions that must be followed with regards to any warranty or guarantee for goods and services.
