Hi there,

I just purchased a car from a dealer this week. A condition of the purchase was that an ignition coil was replaced as on the test drive the car was missing slightly (the dealer explained that the coil was worn and he would be ordering a new one) When I picked up the car it drove fine but a check engine light came on 5 mts into driving home. This light has stayed on since then. I took the car back to the dealer who took it to his garage. They were not able to find anything from the code reader and recommend I bring it in next week so they could have a full day to look over it as they think it might be a wiring issue when the new coil was installed

The dealer has given me a 28 day warranty plus I should be covered by the CGA in any case after that right?

Does this sound normal? I'm a bit skeptical that there is no code flashing up when the check engine light is on. I'm also concerned that this might be a stalling procedure designed to take me beyond those 28 days of warranty. The car drives fine otherwise but I feel that this is the dealer's problem to fix

The dealer needs to repair the fault. The CGA covers you for a reasonable amount of time and this would normally extend beyond the 28 days (depending on mileage and purchase price etc).

Normally when the engine management light is on a stored fault code can be read by the diagnostic scan tool but some aftermarket tools (non-agents) cannot read all the codes.
