If these are in fact here will the NZ Police and or Insurance companies use the data from them in cases against motorists ? I read an article a short time ago that said the U.S. Police do use information from these E.D.R's. I can supply a link if you wish.

The airbag computers fitted to modern vehicles record data and in the event of a crash the computer can be removed and sent to the airbag computer manufacturer to download the crash data. The police in New Zealand have previously used this information in an accident case as it has useful information such as the actual speed before and on impact, the amount of recorded impacts, deceleration forces, etc.
