I was recently in a fender bender with another driver. I was stopped at a stop sign waiting to turn right across traffic (coming out of a side street) and I need to say that the traffic was single lane in both directions. The traffic to my right was backing up as the traffic light to my left was red. A kind soul left me a gap to get through so I could pull out to do my right turn. I pulled forward so that I could see to my left and check for traffic from that direction. Once I had established no traffic from my left I rolled forward preparing to make my right turn. I then looked back to the right to see a car coming at speed towards me in the middle of the road, overtaking the stationary cars on my right. This person smashed into my right front bumper area of my car. Luckily no one was hurt, however I am now told I was the driver at fault. Im dumbfound to see how I can take responsibility for a driver who has made their own lane. Advice please

From the brief description you have supplied it seems that you are at fault as you have moved into the line of traffic and it's your responsibility to ensure that it's safe to move into the traffic. However, you could e-mail us a sketch to aatech@aa.co.nz with some descriptions to give us a better idea of the events that unfolded and we will respond accordingly.
